It was March 2022, my firm was hired on one of the largest environmental justice surveys the city has seen. My team was out in the community and I was too completing surveys at every door we knocked in the Joppee community. Little did I know I was not just knocking on any doors, but the doors to my future. Armed with a clipboard and a smile, equity, and equality in my heart , hoping to improve the lives of those around me. Little did I know, one of those doors would lead me straight to the love of my life. His door creaked open, and there he stood, my fiancé, looking impossibly handsome with a hint of confusion in his eyes. He politely answered my questions about air quality, and as I turned to leave, I felt a strange pull, a feeling I couldn't quite explain. Fate, it seems, had other plans. Twice more, our paths crossed, seemingly by chance. Once at the neighborhood grocery store, the other at a local basketball game. Each time, our eyes met, a spark ignited, a connection growing. Then, one day, it happened. A message slid into my DMs, his name illuminating my screen. He asked me to a date and a beautiful pleasant experience started, and I said yes with a nervous yet excited heart. And knowing the will of God we submitted to that love and moved forward. He took me to Oklahoma and asked for my hand in marriage on November 18, 2023, and here we are, engaged to be married. Our May 25, 2025 wedding date circled on the calendar, a testament to the love that blossomed from a simple knock on a door. Who would have ever known that love would knock at the door disguised as a community survey? Today, we laugh and shake our heads, marveling at the serendipity of it all. It's a reminder that sometimes, the most beautiful surprises are waiting just around the corner, disguised as ordinary moments. So, here's to opening doors God has opened for you.
