We met at a Meetup event at the Congo River mini-golf in Estero, FL. We hit it off right away, casually chatting while mingling with the group. After mini-golf, everyone headed next door to an Irish pub for lunch. It was an unusually hot January day in Florida, so we opted to sit outside. Ryan ordered a beer, and I joined in so he wouldn’t be drinking alone. Despite the heat, I ordered a bowl of soup—mushroom brie, to be exact. When Ryan heard what it was, he couldn’t resist getting one too. He had ridden his Harley down from Punta Gorda and asked if anyone was up for doing something after lunch. Everyone else declined, and I felt bad, so I suggested kayaking. We ended up paddling for three hours at Kayak Outfitters, talking effortlessly the whole time. Dating wasn’t on our minds—we were just having fun and enjoying each other’s company. At one point, I mentioned I’d never been on a motorcycle before, and Ryan promised to change that. We exchanged numbers, and later that day, I texted to make sure he got home safely. From that moment on, the conversation never stopped. Two and a half years later, Ryan brought our story full circle by proposing to me back where it all began—at Congo River mini-golf. ❤️
