El Poblado

Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia

El Poblado is where we have stayed when we have traveled to Medellin. One of the safest and most affluent neighborhoods in Medellin. El Poblado is tucked in the city’s southern section but what it’s really known for is its energetic nightlife and lively bar scene. Hoping between clubs or sipping coffee in trendy cafes all happen along Parque Lleras, Poblado’s most famous street. While you might be sipping cocktails by night, Poblado has a more demure side by day, with plenty of museums to explore. Step inside the Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellin, better known simply as MAMM, to see over 2,000 works of modern art. This is one of the best neighborhoods in Medellin for shopping, which you can do to your heart’s delight at places like El Tesoro Mall. The Poblado neighborhood is also a great starting point for exploring the rest of the city.

Laureles

Medellín, Antioquia 050031, Colombia

Laureles is a sprawling neighborhood located to the west of La Candelaria. Situated in the heart of the city, visitors will find it surprisingly laid back, perhaps thanks to its university-town vibes. A bit more residential than Poblado but not quite as far flung as Envigado, Laureles is becoming a fast favorite with the expat community. Sports fans can’t miss the chance to attend a thrilling football match at the Estadio Atanasio Girardot. Foodies will love diving into some of the city’s most delicious restaurants, exploring Colombian cuisine in Medellin one dish at a time. Visitors will find various accommodations in Laureles, from hostels to bougie hotels. So much so that you might have difficulty choosing where to stay! For those who want to be close to the city center, stay on the eastern side of the neighborhood.
