It was November 1st, 2014 and Savannah was getting ready for a halloween party with some of her best girl friends. Little did she know that later that night she would experience love at first sight. Savannah and her friends arrived at the party and began to mingle. About an hour in to the party, she was standing in the kitchen talking with some friends, when the side door to the house opened and Nick walked in. He was wearing a Coca-Cola t-shirt and a huge smile. She immediately felt a warm rush and it felt like life went into slow motion (it was basically a bay watch moment). She turned to her friend and said "Katie, who is that? I need to know who that is", to which she responded "That's Nick Prior, I think he has a girlfriend". Although a little crushed by her response, she knew she needed to talk to him. After having a few run-ins with him throughout the night, she knew that wasn’t the last time they would see each other. She woke up the next morning to a follow request from him on Instagram, and she knew she had made a good impression. She would joke with her girlfriends for the weeks to come about wanting to see “Nick Prior” again, but having to respect their distance because of that dang girlfriend. A month or so after their initial meeting, Katie texted Savannah saying “Nick Prior is single!!”. Best.Text.Ever. She knew she needed to shoot her shot, so she slid into his twitter DM’s (so millennial of her). They talked for a while and decided to meet up at another party a few weeks later. The rest is history. Our relationship has been through a lot since that day back in 2014, but we wouldn’t change anything as we are more in love now, and stronger than ever because of those times. We are so excited and thankful to be able to celebrate our love with all of our closest friends and family by our side!
Nick had been planning his proposal for about a month. He had given Savannah a Valentine's Day card telling her about a weekend in March that he had planned: A staycation for the two of them at the JW Marriott Hotel in Grand Rapids, complete with a dinner out and a couples' massage the next morning. Savannah, of course curious of when the proposal day would come, was immediately suspicious of this weekend Nick had planned for her. Of course she knew she needed to be ready just in case, so as the weekend drew closer she bought a new dress and got her nails done. Nick could tell Savannah was suspicious, so he decided to throw her off the scent by telling her that he hadn't had the opportunity to talk to her Dad about proposing yet (so sneaky). This of course is funny now, but Savannah was definitely thrown off in the moment. Nick surprised Savannah by checking in to the hotel a day early. When they arrived, there was a charcuterie board and a bottle of wine waiting for them. They enjoyed the pre- dinner snacks in their complementary robes, and view of the Grand River, before getting dressed up for dinner. They walked to Bistro Bella Vita, which is one of their favorite "special occasion" dinner spots in Grand Rapids. Upon stating the reservation name the hostess took them to a private table in the back of the restaurant. Savannah kept asking questions (she's not very good with not knowing things), and Nick put on his best show to act like he had no idea what was happening (and it worked). They ordered drinks, and when they arrived, Nick made a toast. After his toast, he grabbed a ring box hiding behind a flower pot, got down on one knee, and asked Savannah to spend the rest of her life with him - to which she excitedly said yes!
