Our Story

As the sun began to set on the day of Aunt Cathy’s party. I spotted him across the room, his smile lighting up the space around him. As me and Cathyann walked to the car, my heart raced as I whispered to Cathyann about how handsome her cousin was. She giggled and promised to keep my secret, but little did I know, she would soon share it with him. The next day, during the cookout, he approached me with a playful grin. "So, I heard you think I'm handsome," he said, his eyes twinkling with mischief. Embarrassed yet intrigued, I admitted it, and that simple conversation marked the beginning of something special. That night, we found ourselves sitting in the back, away from everyone. The stars were bright, and the air was warm, creating the perfect backdrop for our first real conversation. We talked about everything—our dreams, our fears, our past relationships, our likes and dislikes. He shared stories of his experiences on the ship and I told him about my journey trying to get into nursing school. As the hours passed, I realized how easy it was to talk to him, how comfortable and natural it felt. By the time the sun began to rise, I knew this was not just a fleeting summer romance. When I returned to Albany for nursing school, our connection only grew stronger. We spent countless nights on the phone, talking until one of us fell asleep. Our conversations ranged from deep and meaningful to silly and lighthearted. He became my confidant, my biggest cheerleader, always encouraging me to push through the challenges of nursing school. His unwavering support gave me the strength to keep going, even when things got tough. One evening, after a particularly grueling day at the hospital, I called him in tears. "I don't think I can do this," I confessed, feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. He listened patiently, offering words of comfort and reassurance. "You are stronger than you think," he said softly. "And I believe in you." Those words stayed with me, giving me the courage to face each new day.Through our late-night conversations and heartfelt moments, I saw a side of him that was kind, compassionate, and deeply understanding.
