In Europe's Schengen area, your passport generally must be valid for at least six months at the time of your entry. Although Germany only requires travelers to have three months of validity remaining beyond their intended departure date, airlines may still deny boarding for having less than six months validity, especially if transiting additional Schengen countries. You will need sufficient proof of funds and a return plane ticket. If traveling with prescription medication, review the information regarding pharmaceuticals to avoid potential fines and confiscation here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages/Germany.html Starting in May 2025, US citizens, along with citizens from other visa-exempt countries, will need to obtain an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) before entering Germany, or other Schengen countries. If you are a US citizen planning to travel to Germany in or after May 2025, you will need to apply for an ETIAS online.
