John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park
Great place to go snorkeling in the upper Keys. No need to bring your own gear, you can rent everything you'll need there. Not in the mood to get in the water? They also have glass bottom boat tours.
Everglades National Park
You know how they say rain forests are the lungs of the planet, filtering its air? The Everglades are like the kidneys, filtering and purifying our waters. A beautiful and unique ecosystem less than 30 minutes away.
Mexican Food
This area is known for great Mexican food! Here are some of the places we've tried and love: The fine dining option (read most expensive, but worth it) and delicious margaritas can be found at - El Santo Cayote. Some less expensive but still delicious options include La Cruzada Taqueria Morelia The food truck on Krome just east of us Taco Torro - great lunch specials but no alcohol served (though you can BYOB).
La Michoacana
For the best paleta (Mexican popsicles) in town, a savory snack (like elote in a cup or nachos), or giant cups of fresh juice (yes, this place had a lot going on) you MUST try this place - going there is an experience in and of itself.
Fruit & Spice Park
Take a quick tour of this local park, filled with every tropical fruit and spice that grows in our region - bet you haven't even heard of most of them.
Robert Is Here Fruit Stand
Creamy and delicious milkshakes made with tropical fruits - jackfruit milkshake anyone? And while you're there, check out the animal sanctuary where our tortoise, Matilda, may eventually move to.
Schnebly Redland's Winery & Brewery
Try some wines made from tropical fruits like passion fruit, coconut, and lychee! Or check out the Miami Brewery Company for some local craft beer.
Knaus Berry Farm
We'd like to pretend we're recommending this place for the strawberry picking (which is fun, even though the berries are not organic), but what they're really known for are their delicious cinnamon buns!
