We had our first date at Bonefish Grill. I don't think either of us expected much from this date, a first date between near strangers. However, we both were blown away. Jenn had butterflies in her tummy on her way home and Kyle actually managed to talk! It was the best first date.
With winter in full effect, we both realized we couldn't stand to be apart if foul weather cropped up. We'd grown accustomed to seeing each other every weekend and not having that time together would have been terrible. Perhaps it was quick for some, but for us, it felt like the right moment. Jenn had to work late that evening and missed midnight by mere minutes, but she didn't care much when she made it home for the first time and Kyle was waiting for her.
We were both off doing our own thing, as we tend to do, when Kyle came into the kitchen. Neither of us can remember why now, but out of the blue, Kyle told Jenn to wear her ring. As previously discussed, since Jenn didn't want a cheesy proposal and also didn't want Kyle to get on one knee, that's all that needed to be said. It admittedly took Jenn a moment to realize what had just happened, but when it hit her, she may have literally bear hugged him. In true Ashton style, Jenn announced the engagement to her family by saying she had been upgraded to ex-girlfriend. We both still insist it was funny.
We both - more so Jenn than Kyle - wanted a long engagement so we could properly enjoy this time in our lives before the stress of planning even a relatively simple microwedding started in earnest. However, as September 8th looms, that's quickly coming to an end. Just a couple more months to go before it all starts. While the planning will no doubt be more stressful than fun for us, we're both very excited for the day we say "I do!"
Our relationship has been mostly fun despite a couple hard times where we had to face loss... and home renovations. Even after all this time, we still find ways to enjoy each other's company and conversation, poke fun at each other, and spend time together each day while also allowing each other to have space to do our own thing. It is a fantastic relationship that became official on September 8th of 2021. This day is very meaningful to us and we felt it would be lovely to keep this as our anniversary date for the rest of our lives. So while it's pretty non-traditional to have a wedding on a Monday, we wouldn't have it any other way.
We wanted to take a moment to honor Kyle's father, Robert. We dearly wish he could have been able to be here when Kyle finally marries the woman he loves and we know he would have been as happy as we will be on that day. In honor of the man who played such a big part in shaping Kyle into the man he is today, Kyle has chosen to wear the watch his father left him.
