A decade ago, Micayla and Preston met through mutual friends in high school and became inseparable ever since. At Disneyland's New Orleans Quarter, near Pirates of the Caribbean, Preston mustered up the courage to ask Micayla to be his girlfriend. She said yes, and little did they know at the time they would be planning their wedding nine and a half years later. They embarked on a journey of laughter and love, defying all odds, and finding themselves exactly where they were meant to be.
Micayla knew it was coming (maybe because she wouldn't stop asking him when it was going to happen) because he asked her to get dressed up to go to the beach on a sunny Saturday afternoon. They had the most awkward car ride because neither of them were talking, both anticipating the big moment. They get to the first spot, and Preston realizes it's way too busy and discreetly drives away. Our friends TJ and Pat, who are driving ahead of us, pick another spot less crowded. Micayla thinks Preston took a wrong turn and waits patiently trying not to pry into the situation. They get to the beach and start walking on the sand and she starts to realize rose petals on the ground. Preston is trying to find where the queue is suppose to be, and finds a heart carved in the wet sand (suppose to be soft sand) and rose petals everywhere (suppose to be in the carved out heart) with a little mound of sand and shovel. Preston tells her to dig where X marks the spot. Micayla's reaction? "Dig?!" So what was suppose to be one small scoop turns into 4 scoops of her digging and her thinking to herself, "he better not have buried this ring in the wet sand.." She finds an empty ring box, opens it, it reads turn around, and there's Preston on one knee asking her to marry him. Immediately, Micayla says yes and gives him the biggest hug with the biggest smile on her face. He then leads her to the soft sand where there's two more shovels, one pink and one blue, and he says dig again, Micayla's reaction? "Dig again!?". Not as deep as the fake ring box but we dug up a cooler with a bottle of wine, wine glasses, a blanket, and disposable camera to celebrate a day we've been awaiting for many years. It may have not gone perfect, but it was perfect to us and filled with laughs and a good story. A huge shoutout and thanks to our friends TJ and Pat who helped put this together and were apart of our big day! We cannot wait to finally celebrate our love story with the rest of you! We look forward to 9.28.2024
