It's possible to train to Ann Arbor from Chicago easily and cheaply if booked in advance. We frequently use this service. It is prone to delays.

Travel Note

AATA AirRide Airport Transfers

AATA, the Ann Arbor Transit Authority, operates an airport transfer bus, which drops you off downtown at the bus terminal. From there, you can easily walk or Uber (or possibly bus) to any hotel or Airbnb in town. It is by far the most economical way to get to Ann Arbor from the airport, and very reliable. Accommodations

We are not reserving a hotel block for this weekend. When looking for accommodations, we recommend hotels downtown or near Briarwood Mall, as these will be the most convenient for accessing Ann Arbor's amenities and our celebration venue(s). Airbnb and VRBO are also great choices; Ann Arbor has a large short term rental market because of the popularity of college football. Airbnbs and VRBOs may not post availability until closer to the end of the school year (the academic calendar dictates all in Ann Arbor). The University also operates a hotel within the Michigan League, which is high quality and more stably priced than some options.

Getting Around

Ann Arbor's downtown core is compact and flat, making it ideal for walking and cycling. Because the town is built around the university, downtown Ann Arbor is likely to have all the services and amenities you would need for a short trip. For getting to and from the Ann Arbor Senior Center, we recommend Ubering or walking, depending on where you are staying. You can also access nearly any part of town using the city bus service. If you road tripped or rented a car, driving in Ann Arbor is virtually stress free (especially when the student population is away), and affordable or free lot/garage/street parking is widely available, including at the Senior Center.
