In a run down kitchen in the back of a retreat food hall, Lauren and Jack first met as kitchen volunteers at their high school confirmation retreat. They proceeded to not speak another word to each other after that. Then three years later, on a sweltering summer day, they had their first real conversation. From then on, they kindled a friendship with weekly coffee "dates" to talk about philosophy and theology, bonding over all their shared experiences growing up in San Diego, being Catholic, going through college and more. As time went on, they slowly started falling in love but "they didn't see each other like that, they were best friends." Although everyone saw their love for each other, it took some time for them to realize themselves. Jack was the first to discover his love, and he asked Lauren on a date. Thinking it was a prank, she responded "WHAT? WHY?!" Their friendship blossomed into a lovely relationship that built the foundation for a lifetime.
