How We Met

Love at first Cojo concert

We met at a Cody Johnson concert that both of us almost didn't end up going to... I had asked my aunt to go with me to the concert but she didn't know who Cody Johnson was. Matt had asked some people to go but most of them didn't end up being able to go. In the end we each had buddies who convinced us to come with them. We had never seen each other before even though we went to the same University and we worked out at the same crossfit gym. We had a mutual friend named Haley who asked us both to sit on her blanket with our friends and that's how we met! Matt didn't say a word to me ALL NIGHT. I kept thinking he would introduce himself or ask me to dance (mainly because he was staring at me the whole time) but he didn't say a word. Turns out that he was under the impression that I didn't like him because of some previous random occurrences so we didn't even speak until the next morning when I followed him on instagram because Haley posted a picture with him (I thought he was SO cute, y'all) and he got in contact with me from that.

Our Journey

But God

God is crazy faithful. Period. That is the only reason we met each other back at that concert and the only reason that we have continued to stay together, fall in love, and decide to spend the rest of our lives together. God made us each everything that the other human isn't. He made us better together. He made life together way more fun than life by ourselves. That is what our journey has been and will always be. It's been full of country concerts, road trips, camping, kayaking, buying dogs together, working out together, making breakfast together, shooting guns together, going to crossfit competitions together, playing card games together, working out together some more... It's been full of dog park dates, homework dates, grocery shopping dates, movie dates, gun range dates... It's been full of laughing really hard and being really goofy. It's been full of movies and songs, singing and dancing (mainly Matt singing "Teenage Dream" and Disney's Mulan soundtrack). It's been even more full of showing loads of grace and mercy, choosing to compromise and learn and grow together instead of apart. The more we do life together the more we have become better versions of ourselves and of the people we believe God has made us to be. There have been plenty of hard moments, miscommunications, misunderstandings, and apologies. We are two very, very different people. We have almost opposite personalities. We started out with almost opposite love languages. We communicate differently. We started out approaching conflict differently. But God... He gave us both a deep love for Jesus, for each other, for people, and for life. Our love for Jesus is the core of who we are and it is what unites us. HE is what unites us. He keeps us together. He allows us to make each other better. He shows us how to compromise, and learn, and grow. And He allows us to love each other and our lives together more and more each day.
