On April 28, 2022, a boy and a girl, each with their dogs, arrived at the French Broad River Dog Park at the same time. Her dog immediately ran up to him, prompting him to say, “Does that dog have doggles?” She overheard, laughed (she appreciates a good pun), and thought nothing more of it. A moment later, a 70-pound pit bull found the only mud puddle in the entire park and committed fully—living his absolute best life. She couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m glad you find that funny,” the boy said. “I’m glad that’s not my dog,” she replied. Clearly undeterred, he boldly asked, “Would you like to have lunch with me?” She said yes. Three days later, he picked her up—and hasn’t left her side since.
