The year was 2010, Matt and Kendall were starting their freshman year at LSU and met at the BCM (Baptist Collegiate Ministry) on campus. Matt's hair was long and Kendall's naps were even longer. After being friends for a couple years, Matt cut his hair and Kendall learned he was actually pretty cute. One day she decided to shoot her shot, so she baked some cookies and walked them over to his apartment. But when she arrived, another girl was there with cookies of her own! "I guess this just isn't for me!" she thought, so the two remained friends for about 8 more years. When New Year's 2020 arrived, Kendall made a resolution to run 100 miles that year (she didn't, but has run many hundreds since then!). Kendall knew that Matt was living in town and had been running a lot, so she asked him to run the King Cake Classic 5k. Kendall "forgot" to train beforehand, so they finished the race in 40 minutes and 28 seconds which still holds the record for Matt's slowest 5k of all time. (At this point, Matt alleges that Kendall ghosted him for a couple of months, but Kendall denies recollection of this period.) Over the summer of 2020, Kendall and Matt met up for coffee and beignets almost every Saturday. They would go on walks around local parks and chat about life, and Kendall would regale Matt with stories of how horrifying online dating was. These stories allowed Matt to realize that he had a chance, and in August of 2020 they went on their first date!
