We started off as coworkers and met at work on Mariah's first day at the company. We shared little moments together and became friends over the next year. Years later, Garrett admitted to making up excuses everyday just to go into the lab to talk to me (and I’m more than happy that he did!). A mundane workday was always instantly better any time we were able to spend even a few minutes together. Eventually, Garrett decided to ask me on a date. We had a great time together and immediately knew we had a real connection. It has been 6 years since then and I still can’t believe I get to marry my best friend.
We were invited to the quinceañera of a close family friend. Garrett was excited to go but since it was Friday after a long week at work and I was six months pregnant, staying home sounded like a way better plan. However, Garrett was insistent and finally got me out the door after an hour of coaxing. By this time I was also getting suspicious of where we were really going but I was not prepared for what was coming. As it turns out, my sweet family arranged a surprise 30th birthday party for me —“The Office” themed of course. I thought this would be the biggest surprise of the night but not long into the party we were called up to dance. What happened next was a moment I will never forget. Surrounded by our loved ones with Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” playing in the background, Garrett told me how much he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. As often as he reminded me of these things I was still shocked when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I don’t know what I imagined this moment to be like but this more than exceeded my expectations. It was the perfect night.
