We both are from Augusta and were always casually cordial in high school. Jamie was a sophmore at Augusta University where I was also doing joint enrollment as a senior in high school. One day I was completely lost on campus, luckily I ran into Jamie and his friend AJ. I asked them where a particular class was on campus, Jamie offered to walk me to the building, we had a quick casual conversation. I thought he was nice, but I honestly thought nothing of it. Three years later I changed my Facebook relationship status to SINGLE and he slid in the DM's immediately! He shot his shot and the rest is history!
The first time Jamie came to visit me was during my junior year of college. I was at the University of Georgia and he was coaching at Oak Hill in Virginia. We had just went on a date and everything was great. He pulls up to my apartment and I'm lingering in the car waiting for him to make a move. Womp. Womp. Nothing. I get out the car and go upstairs knowing that I was going to miss him terribly. We lived so far apart and I knew we weren't going to see each other for a long time. He calls me while he's driving away and says "I wished I would have gotten a kiss." I reply, "Well you should've kissed me". He turned around and came back. I was standing on the stairs. He gets out the car and runs up to me ......and then we kissed.
Jamie was living in Buffalo and I had been staying with him while working from home and it was time for me to go back. He asked me to stay because his brothers were in town. He said they really wanted to go to Niagara Falls. I thought that was perfect because I have been wanting to do the Maid of the Mist boat tour for the longest. It's the day of the boat ride and I get up early and cook brunch with mimosas. Everything is going well until we get in the car. I start to get a really bad headache because Jamie is wearing too much cologne. I had to crack a window it was so strong. We get there and the only thing on my mind is not missing this boat tour. Jamie kept saying "I want to show them "this" side of the falls." I was like "You can see the falls really good right here and we need to get in line for the boat." I was anxious about the boat ride because they sell out really quickly. Jamie was like.. "We're good, we won't miss it, let's go to this side of the falls and get the tickets after." I know I was working his nerves because I kept saying "Why you got us walking so far? How much longer?! My thighs are sweating." Finally, we get to "the spot". He says "Don't you think the falls look better on this side?" I reply, "It's ok." "Dang just ok?" "Take off your mask" he says I resist and say "Noooo it's a lot of people out here." I look around at the growing crowd in the park.... still thinking about the boat ride. He says, "It turned out to be a beautiful day." "Yes it is beautiful", I reply. He says "It's an even more beautiful day to tell you that I want to spend the rest of my life with you." I turn around and he's on one knee. He pulls out the ring. I'm speechless. Suddenly, the coaches emerge from the bushes. Then, Jaquetta comes around the corner. I see more family and friends and I think "wow.. this is for real." I say, "Yes!" Oh yea.... we missed the Maid of the Mist tour! But now we have the rest of our lives to catch the next one.
