We've been working at an eye doctor's office called ACHIEVE Family Vision for the past 2 years! That's were we became good friends!
I (Rebecca) originally was working in one part of the office that didn't interact too much with the part of the office that Samuel works in. Then I changed positions and started to get to know Samuel more. In May of 2024 we went on their first double date BUT not with each other. We set each other up on dates with our roommates! We went and played pickleball and got burgers afterwards. We had lots of fun!
About a year after the first double date Samuel brought up that he was wanting to get back into the dating game. With our history of setting each other up, I quickly responded with the idea of setting him up with another one of my friends! So we went on another double date but this time we went hiking and then got some ice cream afterwards. Once again we had a fun time!
Well, turns out when Samuel mentioned that he was wanting to get back into the dating game, he was trying to hint that he wanted to go out with me. I obviously didn't catch onto that haha! To try and spend time with me out of work and make it easier to ask me out, Samuel decided to host a Memorial Day BBQ with his friends so he had the excuse to invite me over. So I went! He had invited me to things with his friends in the past, so it wasn't weird that he invited me again. The BBQ didn't turn out the way he expected due to more people showing up than expected and using a charcoal grill for the first time (unfortunately he didn't know exactly how to use it), BUT I once again had a good time spending time with him! But he didn't ask me out at the BBQ. Then a few weeks later, Samuel showed up to work without his car due to his car having some problems. So he asked me for a ride home since we figured out that we lived close to each other from the double dates. On the ride home, we were chatting and all of the sudden Samuel asked me if I had ever been to the Springville museum. I mentioned that I have once before. And then he said this "Would you be available either Friday or Saturday to go on a date there?" I replied that I did't know my schedule off the top of my head, but I'm sure between those two days I would be available to go. We then had a couple of minutes before getting to Samuel's house, so naturally Samuel started talking about statues in Spanish Fork and I had no idea what he was talking about haha!
After weeks of making plans, Samuel proposed on November 7th. He made plans with Becca to have lunch with his mom and take a picture for their family Christmas card (turns out the Murdock's don't do a Christmas card but Becca had no idea). On the way to lunch, Samuel and Becca were chatting when Samuel asked Becca if she had any ideas on how he was going to propose. Becca responded that she had no clue but asked if she could share some things that she would like to have when it does happen. Well, little did she know that they were on the way to where Samuel was going to propose! On the way to Samuel's parent's house is the office where they work at. Samuel took an unexpected turn to the office and said that he had something he needed to grab. Becca was very confused until she noticed a sign on the front door that said "The story of Becca Pope and Samuel Murdock." As tears filled both their eyes, Samuel took Becca by the hand and walked into the office that had been all set up with the proposal...well, almost set up. The office was closed that day because the doctors had a meeting and after the meeting the volunteered to set up the proposal, but Samuel and Becca showed up 15 mins too early. So they were redirected to go take a drive. So they drove around and ended up going to Maverik and grabbing their favorite drinks. Once they did that, it was time to head back to the office! So they restarted the walk around the office with pictures throughout their time together and rose petals to guide the way. Then they got to the end, which ended in the office space that Becca works in where candles had been set up and the song "Kiss Me" by Pomplamoose was playing. Samuel then got down on one knee and asked Becca to marry him with her grandma's wedding band that he received from her grandpa. And in case you haven't guessed, Becca said yes!!
We will be living in Orem while Rebecca continues to work and Samuel wraps up his schooling.
Samuel grew up in Cedar Hills, Utah! He is the fourth of four kids. After graduating high school, he went on to serve a mission in Fresno, California. After his mission he started to attend BYU studying biology and working at ACHIEVE. He will graduate in June before we head off to Memphis!
Rebecca grew up in Orem, Utah. She is the seventh of ten children. She grew up playing the cello, enjoying time with family and friends, and spending time outdoors. She is a big fan of music (both playing and listening). She served a mission in Nashville, Tennessee and is very excited to be living close to her mission for Samuel's schooling! Since her mission she has been working at ACHIEVE as a dyslexia & processing evaluation aide and has loved spending time helping kids on their journey of learning.
