Indian weddings vary dramatically from region to region in India and have morphed even more as they have transitioned to the U.S. Our wedding will start with the Baraat, which is the arrival of the Groom, which is a parade that escorts the Groom to the wedding with a lot of dancing and music. The groom and his family will be greeted by the brides family at the entrance to the venue. The groom and groom's immediate family will then process to the Mandap, which is the structure in/under which the ceremony will take place. After the processional of the wedding party, the bride will approach the mandap. The ceremony will consist of prayers for purification and invitation to the gods, worship of various elements of the wedding, exchange of garlands, tying of the manglesutra (necklace), and ultimately, circling the fire 7 times.
