How we met...How we met...

How Scotland met Cornwall

We were introduced by a mutual 'friend' whilst playing games online... Cam's online friend had just started dating a girl called Polly (how all fairytales begin). Polly was hopeless at computer games and Cam was helping her become less of an idiot by showing her the ropes in his spare time. Polly and Cam laughed and joked and clicked as friends and added each other on Facebook. Polly and Cameron parted ways with the mutual friend but they decided to stay friends valuing each other's time and humour. After a few months Polly's university friends started to notice smiles when Cameron messaged and a certain defensiveness when any notion of a crush was mentioned. Cameron's care home colleagues questioned why he was on his phone so much and who he was smiling at. The seeds of romance were sown...

But you still hadn't met yet...But you still hadn't met yet...

The Nose Scrunch Era

As the blooms of romance started to blossom the pair encountered a snag... Cameron's distain for any sort of call where Polly would hear his voice. But on the 1st of October 2020 Cameron plucked up the courage to pick up Polly's phone call (after much nagging from Polly). The butterflies burst out of belly buttons and the pair knew this was something special. 4 days later the pair had their first video call and had now seen each others faces properly (excusing the Steele household's rubbish wifi) Polly was thrilled with the pixilated face in front of her and Cameron blushed at the alien filter Polly had put on. Polly and Cameron began their video call crusade with their longest call being over 100 hours. They navigated Cam's night shifts with 2am break time calls, COVID-19 restrictions and the 350miles between them. During these night calls Cameron kept trying to ask Polly to be his girlfriend but Polly (very sensibly) said they could not truly know if they liked each other without meeting in person. The pair knew this was love and desperately wanted to tell each other. So they decided they wouldn't say the words till they met but instead, would nose scrunch when they wanted to say it. Let me tell you, the nose scrunch was used A LOT! One evening the pair started hatching a plan to meet up and as if Boris Johnson had read their minds, the COVID-19 restrictions relaxed enough that Cam could drive down to Bristol (where Polly was at University) to meet each other finally. The countdowns were started and the excitement bubbled. On October the 28th 2020 Cameron made the long journey in his fuel thirsty, tiny, sports car to Bristol. At 4:30pm Cam pulled up, got to of his car and pulled Polly into his arms for a long awaited squeeze.

Boyfriend and Girlfriend?Boyfriend and Girlfriend?

The Air B&B

After the long awaited squeeze, Polly's university friends jumped out of the bushes they were hiding behind to say hello to the exciting stranger they had heard so much about. After Cam's interrogation by the friends, he tried to put Polly's bags in the frunk (front trunk) but alas it was so small they had to sit on Polly's lap. The nervous energy in the car was palpable but the pair pulled up to the dodgy Air B&B, collected the key in the very well hidden lock box and made their way up to the 3rd floor. That evening Cam asked Polly to be his girlfriend and she said yes and they both finally said I love you. awwww The Air B&B was filled with laughter, hello fresh meals, Maltesers throwing contests, snuggles and movies. Cameron wooed Polly with his fry ups, cups of tea and willingness to forgive stolen hoodies or pyjamas.

Will you Marry me?Will you Marry me?

The 4 year rollarcoaster

4 years flew by in a blur: Polly finished University in Bristol which she would never have passed without Cam's pushes to get her to write assignments and dissertations; Cameron got his lorry licence and started working as a Kitchen delivery driver; Cam moved to Bristol to live with Polly; Cameron taught Polly how to drive and she passed first time; They had ectopic pregnancy in which they held each other strong; Polly completed a year teaching in a Year 5 English classroom and everyone survived!; Then they both moved back to Scotland into the Steele family home (sorry Lorraine and David); Cam found his dream job delivering to farms in his very own lorry; Polly went back to University in Scotland; and they both joined the National trust (so adult). Whilst on the second week of Polly's first placement, Cameron planned a get away as a belated anniversary present. The pair drove to Loch Lomond on the 2nd November 2024 and walked around the Loch admiring the fog and the mizzly rain. Cam thought he was cool as a cucumber and Polly had no idea what was happening (he was infact very suspicious and Polly had sussed what was happening). They reached an area by the water and stopped to "take photos". Cam finally got down on one knee and asked Polly to marry him and of course...she said yes. Polly and Cameron were treated to a night in a fancy hotel by Polly's parents as a congratulatory gift and the whole day was perfect. The next step is stepping down the aisle and hopefully (fingers crossed) 2 sets of I do. Next stop Mr & Mrs Steele...
