In 2021 I (Ashley) moved to Oaxaca, Mexico to teach missionary kids. Eighteen months later, I met Cody starting his journey there working at the SIL center in the nearby village of Mitla. Our friendship grew through leading youth group together and lots of tacos. My time in Oaxaca ended in June 2024. That month, while Cody was visiting, he asked me to go putt putt golfing. A date in his eyes, our last time hanging out as friends in mine. Cody returned to Oaxaca, and we had lots of video chats and both snuck in some visits. He moved home in March 2025. We enjoyed getting to know each other's families and not communicating through a screen. In August 2025, Cody proposed, and I didn't blink an eye. God orchestrated our story in the most beautiful way. Two West Michigan (Holland and Byron Center) individuals meeting thousands of miles away. We are so excited to celebrate the first part of our story and what's to come with those who have been there for different parts of our adventure as individuals or a couple.
