Bridesmaid
Bethany and I met during our Freshman year at Houston Baptist. Long story short, roommates for 11 years, student taught together, taught at the same campus for 12 of or 14 years in education. To say she is more of a sister to me than a friend is an understatement.
Groomsman
Friend, roommate, maintenance partner and late night to sunrise beach drinking buddy. Yes there really is a man under all that long hair. I started hanging with Nate when I was in college and he was finishing high school. I needed a part time 5 o’clock cocktail partner and he was easily groom-able for the task. If he was really my little brother growing up, one of us probably would have killed the other through a stupid yet wildly hilarious prank gone wrong. Speaking of, do not trust him with a potato gun. He’s good for breaking into dance when the right song comes on the radio. Just don’t expect it to be a particularly well choreographed dance.
Bridesmaid
Kourtney is one of the sweetest and kindest people you will ever met. She offered to take me my first Texans' game as an acquaintance. 12 years later and she has been an important part of my life ever since.
Groomsman
Mike is a childhood prodigal friend who “drifted away” for a while but return to us some years ago. We think the “I was having kids” explanation is a cover story for performing covert government wet work or prison time. He is the whiskey and cigar aficionado of the Sharpstown crew. Speaking from experience, accept his drink offers with caution. Given his history, you would find it as ironic as we do that he is often referred to as “Dad” by us as well as his daughters since he has become the more responsible one of the group. Although that’s like saying one rattlesnake is more cuddlier than another. Also he’s just a so so ladder golf player….
Bridesmaid
I initially met Brooke 11 years ago through Kourtney. Brooke is the loyal friend who is always there for you with great advice, great food, and is always down for a good time.
Groomsman
How do you solve a problem like Alan? That’s the question since Kindergarten and I still got nothing. The most quiet of the Sharpstown crew, Alan comes off as a mystery, wrapped in an enigma candy coated shell and submerged in a conundrum of Dr. Pepper. He’s proof still waters run deep with his random one liners and exquisite baking skills. Our dysfunctional friendship seems unlikely but after 30 years of mutually emotional co-dependence, we stay close today. He may or may not be the shoeless individual dancing to Phish in the corner.
Bridesmaid
Jana is another HBU graduate. She, Bethany, and I became friends under some interesting circumstances. Jana came to HBU with Bethany and the three of us became inseparable until graduation.
Groomsman
My “little buddy” and stolen 8th grade/2nd grade mentor-ie. Don’t worry, I eventually returned him to his family. John is quite the sports enthusiast and even got me into sports as watching his over the top, emotional responses to wins and losses is better than any half time show. He’s 3rd Generation Sharpstown neighborhood and recently started the 4th along with his wife Taylor. John is the resident writer of the Sharpstown crew having his work published on paper and digital. He’s still holding out hope for that dream job at the writing factory though.
