Danielle had just returned home from Thanksgiving with her family with a renewed sense of confidence on her swiping ability. Dave was a lad riding shotgun on his way home from a hockey game when his phone buzzed with a new Bumble match. She had opened the conversation asking about "A Christmas Story", his favorite movie, a movie she can't stand. After exchanging a few messages they had arranged to go on a date. Danielle had a horrible day at work and was nervous thinking about the possibility that she could end up in a dumpster so she bailed. Now depending on who you ask, you will get a different version of what happened next. Danielle offered to be able to tentatively meet up a couple of days later but it would depend on how much homework she could get done. Dave understood that to mean they had concrete plans to meet up. Danielle didn't get her homework done. Danielle left the next morning for a week in Florida with her grandparents. Dave was willing to give Danielle one more chance and planned one more date for when she returned from Florida. Despite being overwhelmingly nervous, Danielle drove to Peekskill to go on a date with Dave. They shared a pretzel, they played arcade games, and drive around to look at Christmas lights. It started during the family Christmas party when everyone was passing around jewelry to get Danielle’s ring size because there’s no way Dave would ever figure it out. After gathering the intel he needed, Dave put in motion his plan to propose to Danielle. After talking to Danielle’s Aunt about how long getting her great grandmother’s ring reset and sized would take, he set his sights on a late April proposal. Being somewhat of a traditionalist Dave made time to ask Danielle’s parents for their blessing and to let his parents in on his plan as well. Unanimous excitement was returned to him as well as a welcome to the family. Dave had the date set. April 29, 2023. Danielle’s Aunt would invite them for what she thought was a retirement party for her Uncle. A few weeks prior to Dave’s planned date, Danielle asked him “are we doing any thing April 29. A look of panic came over Dave’s face but quickly recovered to simply say “not that I’m aware of.” She then said they’d received in invite to the retirement party. PHEW! After an unnoticed sigh of relief the plan was all set. Fast forward to April 29th Danielle still thinking they were heading up to Lake George for her Uncles retirement party. Along with Dave, they met up with her Brother Jonathan, his girlfriend Alyssa, dad Greg and mom Carrie who had the ring to give to Dave. They met up at Lake George staple Martha’s for some ice cream before the party. Dave and Carrie had made the exchange without Danielle noticing. Dave, with a larger than expected ring box in his pocket, was too nervous to enjoy his root beer float. But all of a sudden Dave started thinking about calling an audible. I mean think of the lifetime supply of ice cream they would’ve gotten had he proposed right there at Martha’s. But Dave followed his heart over his sweet tooth and kept to his plan. With time to kill before the “retirement” party they decided to kill time by going to the local arcade. Well at least that’s what Danielle thought. Where in reality they’d be heading to the mystery spot in Lake George in which where your voice echos off the lake. Dave asked Danielle if they could go to the spot quickly. When they took their position at the spot Dave spoke to Danielle and claimed he couldn’t hear the echo. Asking her to stand next to him hopes their combined voices would make an echo. Dave played dumb and said he still couldn’t hear the echo. As Danielle started asking what do you mean Dave said “maybe I’m too tall. Maybe it’ll work if I get lower”. As Danielle seemed befuddled, Dave lowered to one knee and pulled the box out of his pocket to reveal a ring. As Dave declared his love to Danielle and asked her to Marry him, her immediate response was “Are you sh*tting me? Are you sh*tting me?” To which Dave said in a slight panic “No I’m not but could you say something else, I’m getting nervous here”. A resounding YES followed by a kiss started us on the path to #PlanningToBeACanning
