PJ and I met on the school bus, in high school! He was the troublemaker that sat in the back, and I was the goody two-shoes that sat in the very front. One day my friend convinced me to sit in the back with her, and against my better judgement, I did. He was loud and crazy but so himself and I knew I was in trouble when we started sitting together, every day!
Before I begin know 2 things. I don't plan well, and by that I mean hardly at all. Exhibit A: I don't have a second thing. Anyways... Caitlin loves bridges. Big bridges, short bridges, metal bridges, wooden bridges, you know bridges. There is a local bridge, Crim-Dell Bridge located very close to the college of William & Mary. Legend has it that if two lovers cross the bridge together and kiss at the crest of it, they will be together forever. It was around 11 P.M. one Friday night and Caitlin and I were about to enjoy an evening out. We were off to meet a friend down by William & Mary. (Planning!) As we came closer to our final destination I pretended to get lost to get her off the trail. Then I got actually lost. Reference Exhibit A. Moving along. The bridge goes over a small pond, on one side dorm rooms; the other the woods. I didn't scope out my location beforehand. I didn't look up pictures of the bridge beforehand. I'm obviously batting 1.000 at this point. We are legitimately lost now, but I can see this bridge in the woods. But I can't see a way to get on this bridge, so I took the only natural course of action. I made Caitlin walk through the woods at 11:30 on a Friday night in the dark. Good husband material. Finally we reach the bridge. Was it raining? Why am I so wet? Man I was nervous. I get Caitlin on the bridge and stop her right at the crest. Ring in hand, I dropped that cool line about the local legend, got down on one knee, and asked her to be my wife. Then like any classy gentleman, I took her to get fries and a milkshake. Love that woman. *Local legend also says, If that couple separates at any point thereafter, the lady must throw her ex-lover off of the bridge and into the water to break the curse of being forever single. Good thing I have floaties.
