How Seb Proposed

After a perfect spring day in April—strolling through the farmers market and getting pedicures together—Sebastian planned a romantic dinner for us at Union Station in Denver. I was *certain* this was the night he was going to propose. But when dinner ended and we headed home, my heart sank a little. In the car, I was texting my maid of honor, Molly, about how disappointed I was that he hadn’t popped the question. Little did I know, Sebastian was a step ahead of me, and the best surprise was waiting just around the corner. When we pulled up to our apartment, something immediately caught my eye: a mysterious pink glow coming from the windows. My suspicion was piqued, and as soon as we walked in, I was floored. The entire apartment was bathed in a dreamy Barbie-pink light, filled with the soft hues of a sunset. Surrounding us were 13 gorgeous bouquets of pink roses—symbolic of the number 13, an important part of our Colgate University story. And here’s the kicker: Sebastian, being the media professional that he is, had designed the lighting himself. He’d also pulled off an elaborate scheme with my bridesmaid Savannah. He ordered the roses and sent her detailed instructions (complete with photos!) on where to place each bouquet while we were at dinner. Savannah snuck in, set up everything perfectly, and even tucked our cats, RadioShack and Blockbuster, safely in the bedroom to ensure nothing disrupted the grand reveal. I was absolutely *screaming* when I walked in. (Seriously, you can watch the video on this site—I sound completely unhinged!) Sebastian could barely get out the words, “Rachel Johanna Pittman, will you marry me?” before I was yelling, “YESSSS!” and, “PUT THE RING ON!!!” at the top of my lungs. In my excitement, I even dropped to my knees on the floor with him, and we both started crying. It was such a pure, beautiful moment, just the two of us basking in the glow of the pink light and surrounded by roses. That is, until the cats began meowing from the bedroom, demanding to join the celebration. We let them out, cuddled them, and kissed each other, soaking in every second of our perfect night. The first person I called to share the big news was my dad. It was a night I’ll never forget, and it perfectly captured who we are: a little dramatic, a little quirky, and very much in love.
