Our Love Story

Cameron's Perspective

Makenzie and I are proof that soulmates are real—and that the world is a lot smaller than you think. Our story actually started long before we met. Back in 1997 in New Orleans, our dads worked together at TEKsystems and became close friends, staying in touch for years as their families grew. Fast forward to 2022, when we both ended up working at TEKsystems ourselves—completely unaware of the family connection. We saw each other around the office but never spoke until the 2023 Christmas party. Afterward we connected on Instagram, and when my mom saw Makenzie’s name, she revealed the whole backstory tying our families together. The next day at work, I walked straight up to her and asked, “Hey… is your dad Jeremy?”. No hello. No context. Just straight to the point. From there we connected the dots, exchanged numbers, and started texting. A few weeks later we went out with friends in the Stockyards, and I asked her to dinner the next day (She still claims it wasn’t a date… I disagree). Even after she told me she didn’t date coworkers, we kept talking and became inseparable friends—texting nonstop and spending more and more time together. One night out in Frisco, between drinks, dancing, and a kiss, I knew I was all in. She tried to shut it down again because of work, but mentioned she planned to leave the company soon, so I stayed patient and didn’t give up. We kept growing closer every day, and on March 28, 2023, I asked her to be my girlfriend—and this time she said yes (After making me wait for an even-numbered day). I told her I was dating to marry and only wanted a yes if she felt the same. Well… look at us now.
