To many, Rockingham is the epitome of a small, southern town. We have everything you need (except a Target...), but lack the abundance of entertainment options found in larger cities. So, we've learned to make our own fun! A few years ago a group of locals got together to create an adult kickball league as a means to bring people together and provide some summer fun. Several local groups, including the Richmond Young Professionals, sponsored teams in the league (and boy did things get competitive!) Although we had both been members of RYP previously, our paths never managed to cross until that summer. We met at our team's first game, and Jim asked me on our first date a few games later (in the pouring down rain). To this day, we still enjoy playing in that kickball league every summer, and plan to share a bit of that fun with you on wedding day. So bring your A game, (and tennis shoes if you wish), and get ready for a cocktail hour showdown!
It's become a tradition in our relationship to enjoy a weekend away at Kiawah Island every winter. It's our happy place and our go-to escape! Each time we visit, Jim plays a round of golf at their iconic Ocean Course, and I walk along with him, taking in the scenery. This year though, Jim had a surprise in store. When we got to the 18th green, on the final putt of the entire round, Jim said to me, "here, why don't you go take that putt." I at first refused his offer to do so, but he was adamant. So I timidly walked onto the green and began sizing up my shot. As I did, Jim's father called out, "Hey Becky, what kind of ball is he using?" Instinctively I looked down to check, and written on the ball were the words, "Will you marry me?" As I dropped the putter, piecing together what was happening, I turned around to see Jim down on one knee, asking me to be his wife. I of course said "YES," and the rest is history.
