Although Katie and Matt both did their undergraduate studies at Florida International University in Miami, that is not exactly how they met. They got their first glimpse of one another through their profiles on a dating app that was popular at the time called Tinder. If you are unfamiliar with the app, peoples' profiles with their pictures pop up, and you are supposed to swipe right if you are interested or swipe left if you are not. If both people swipe right, then hooray, you've matched! Once you've matched, you can chat with that person. Around April 2016, Matt and Katie matched! However, shortly after matching, Katie deleted her app, and all was lost. *sigh* Or, was it??? Katie later rejoined the app, and who would have thought that Matt's profile would come across her screen yet again. Again, they matched! This time Matt wasn't going to let her get away, so he asked for her phone number. Now they are ready to celebrate their wedding with you over eight years after they both swiped right twice! Peep the first photo the couple ever had taken together at the bottom of the page. It was taken May 2016 while celebrating Matt's birthday at the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort. #WastedAwayWithWarheits
Matt really wanted to plan a small-town weekend getaway while Matt and Katie were living in Texas. He decided to plan a long weekend in Dripping Springs, TX. The weekend was Veteran's Day weekend and their half year anniversary putting them at 7.5 years together. They drove out to this cute AirBNB for the night, and the next day started their day with breakfast at the quaint bakery, cafe, and bistro "Rolling in Thyme and Dough". They shopped at many local shops, went on a hike, and did a tasting at the Deep Eddy Vodka Tasting Room. While driving, they also happened upon Family Business Beer Company. If you know Matt and Katie, you know that they love a good brewery. They decided to try it out and discovered that Jensen Ackles (actor who plays Dean in the TV show "Supernatural') is one of the owners! Although Jensen wasn't there, they enjoyed learning that an actor from one of their favorite shows owned the place. The Cosmic Cowboy American IPA was a favorite. Later that evening, Matt surprised Katie with an upscale dining experience at Tillie's, a repurposed 200-year-old Vietnamese town hall turned restaurant. Their waiter brought them celebratory champagne and dessert for their anniversary. At the end of the spectacular dinner and day, they headed back for the night. However, once they got back to the Airbnb, Matt told Katie to wait in his truck. Not suspicious at all . . . LOL. After a few minutes, Matt came out to walk Katie into the Airbnb. The lights were off, but there were fairy lights and candles lighting a pathway full of rose petals and photographs of the couple over the years. Matt led Katie down the path, then at the end, he got down on one knee and popped the big question. Katie obviously said "yes!" The next day on the way road trip back home, the couple stopped at Buc-ees and got a picture with Buc-ee the Beaver himself.
