We first met online, which was still a novel concept in 2015. Phil -- allegedly accidentally -- still had his location set as Dundee, and I was in St. Andrews, so at least I felt we were both local to each other. Phil had this beautiful photo of himself and Gordon, (see Photo's Section). How could I not respond? Our first date, which was originally just brunch turned into a five hour tour of Edinburgh, from the National Museum, to watching buskers, to aimlessly walking the streets eagerly listening to each other's anecdotes. We even realized we had the same birthday, how serendipitous (and let's be real, highly convenient). From then on we couldn't stop talking to each other, and Phil made the treacherous two hour journey from the Borders to St. Andrews every weekend to spend time with me. And when it came time for me to head back to Canada, luck was on our side and Phil managed to get a visa to come back with me. Phil was so excited to experience the monotony that is North America, and he made coming back that much more exciting. After a couple of years living together here, we both agreed we were pretty swell together and decided to sign a legally binding document to show our commitment to each other. It's been a couple years since then, but we thought hey, why miss out on a celebration in Scotland, where we both met and Phil's heritage home.
