Formal - both Indian and Western styles The "Baraat" is the groom's procession into the wedding ceremony. The groom usually makes a grand entrance and both the groom and his family are welcomed by the bride's side of the family. This usually involves lots of dancing, so please come prepared with your best pair of dancing shoes! Formal - both Indian and Western styles The wedding ceremony will be a traditional Hindu, Gujarati ceremony. We know that many of the guests will be experiencing this for the very first time and although an outline will be provided on the day of, here are some highlights of the ceremony that will help you understand what each ritual is and why it is done: - The Garland Exchange: the bride and groom meet for the first time on the wedding day and put garlands around each other. - Kanyadaan - this ritual symbolizes the father of bride "giving away" his daughter to his son-in-law saying that his daughter's happiness is now his responsibility. - Pheras - the couple takes four "pheras" or circles around a sacred fire, each symbolizing a goal of human life. - Saptapadi - the couple takes seven steps together each step for a vow.
