It's been called the "Whisper Chamber", a phenomenon and a mystery. You can stand in the center & hear your own echo when there shouldn't be one. The center itself is a worn concrete circle, 30 inches in diameter, that’s in the middle of a 13-row circle of bricks eight feet in diameter. The circle was created in the ’80s, when the span of bridge had to be rebuilt after a fire. Near the Center is a large tower with a cloud on it. Created for the 1991 Mayfest, Native American artist Robert Haozous created a great sculpture named “Artificial Cloud.” The sculpture is seventy-two and one-half feet tall, the work was created on the premise that more people would look at a naturally rusting steel cloud than at the real thing. Described by critics as "a silent commentary on man’s love of technology and the destructiveness that can come from that infatuation. The surface of the sculpture has been allowed to rust, to show the effect of time and the atmosphere."
