We met for the first time at a "Friendsgiving". Jamie's friend and Phil's new coworker Erica invited us both, thinking we would be a good match. Jamie was dating someone else at the time, but she spent most of the evening complaining that he didn't come to the event. Erica knew that this other guy wasn't right for Jamie, so she arranged for her to sit next to Phil for the evening. While nothing evolved beyond friendly conversation that evening, Phil had been thinking "she's pretty cute". A few months later, the stars aligned again and thanks to Erica, we ended up seeing each other again on a school field trip to the ice rink. This time Jamie was single. We made some small talk and it wasn't until a few days later in the teachers lounge that Phil asked Erica for Jamie's number. From our first date it was clear that we were perfect together. After a wonderful two years and surviving a pandemic together we decided to spend the rest of our lives together.

Jamie's Grandma Marilyn loved Phil and was waiting for the day that she got the call that we were engaged. While she passed a bit before that happened, we like to think it was her divine intervention that hurried things along. After passing, she left Jamie her engagement ring. Jamie likes to think that this was the kick in the pants Phil needed, but it seems he already had plans in mind. He decided to take Jamie to pick out a new setting for her grandma's stone as a gift for our second anniversary. We made an agreement that we would pick out the setting together, but the proposal itself would be a surprise. This led to Phil lying to Jamie for about a month. "The setting wasn't available"..."It's going to be a few weeks before it's ready"..."Maybe I'll propose in the fall" were all statements Phil made while he was secretly planning a proposal with Jamie's mom...and he really did plan a great surprise. On May 15th, 2021, Jamie got all dressed up, did her nails, and got in the car to go to her Aunt Joni's house for a "girls night". Upon arriving, she was rushed out to the backyard to "come see what Ed did out back" (not even realizing that Ed had been out of town for weeks). When she approached the beautiful gazebo and dock in her aunt's backyard, she started to hear the song "Big, Big Plans", which was one of our recent favorites. Then, she saw Phil step out from behind a bush onto the dock. Shortly after, Jamie realized both of their families were there as well. Before getting on one knee, Phil recited (or attempted to recite) the same words Chandler said to Monica in their proposal from their favorite show "Friends". When his nerves got the best of him and he started stumbling, Jamie took over and finished them, making it even more perfect.
