Philip & Ashlyn: Chapter 1

Ashlyn: In my last year of grad school, one of the staff members at Richmont reached out to me and said they were looking for a GA in the President's office and that my name had come up as an option. This was actually a huge answer to prayer as I was about to begin a yearlong internship and was asking the Lord about what I could do for income during that time. This was a great opportunity, not only to have a lot of responsibilities al in one place, but I was really looking forward to being in close proximity to the faculty and staff. Little did I know just how close I would get to one of them in particular. ;) The first day I met Philip, I remember thinking "okay-this guy is cute." I felt some shame about that for some reason and had to remind myself "hey, you're a single, 26 year old female. You are allowed to notice a guy that you think is attractive!". So, I noticed, imagining nothing would come of it. Until I became acutely aware of how frequently Philip would stop by my desk and chat for a little bit. And I'm not saying I minded...at all. Phil: I remember one day my co-worker mentioned that we would be hiring a GA to help out in the President's Office. On Ashlyn's first day, I remember meeting her and being so impressed at how pleasant and warm she was (not to mention, quite the cutie). I've always heard you're not supposed to date people you work with, so I was hesitant at first to give her more attention than I thought kosher. However, I was so drawn to her that I couldn't help but find myself caught up in 30 minute conversations with her about life, faith, and our dreams. My co-workers started to pick up on the (not so discrete) attention I gave Ashlyn and they began to nudge me toward asking her out. Finally, one of my co-workers helped me realize that it was "now or never" and that I knew I wanted to get to know Ashlyn more. So I bucked the conventional wisdom and asked her out to coffee. And I guess you could say it worked out in our favor.

For all the days along the way
