As you all will have heard at some point: Rio de Janeiro isn´t like Austria, Germany or Switzerland. So here are a few things to keep in mind: -Valuables: Keep valuables such as expensive watches, diamond rings, gold chains/necklaces and anything shiny and expensive either in Europe or in your hotel. What the eyes can´t see the heart doesn´t feel. - Situational awareness: Be aware of your surroundings. If it looks dodgy, it probably is dodgy. - Walking: We as Europeans are tempted to walk everywhere. Just because the distance between Point A and B seems walkable, doesn´t mean you should (specially at night). Sometimes the best option is to take an Uber. - Transportation: Prefer Uber or Taxis via an App over random Taxis on the street. Taking the metro is also a safe option. We suggest taking Uber black, as it is only a few Euros more expensive but definitely the more comfortable option
We recommend getting an eSIM for your time here to make life easier. So far we had good experiences with Airalo, Nomad or Holafly eSIM. They are easy to use and stable. You can use code ALEXAN25904 when you sign up or check out to get 3 Euros off any Airalo SIM: https://ref.airalo.com/1q5R Further information: https://www.traveltomtom.net/destinations/south-america/brazil/best-esim-cards-for-brazil
