Phil and Lauren's story begins virtually, in the world of dating apps. Bumble, specifically, where they first argued about which of Heath Ledger's roles was his best. (It's "A Knight's Tale," obviously). Not long after setting a time and location for their first date, Phil... stopped hearing from Lauren. He would later find out Lauren was in the hospital holding her newborn niece, Ellen, and couldn't be bothered to respond. Lauren did not respond for quite some time though. The "ghosting," as some might call it, would be a very notable event in their history. A few weeks later, Phil and their officiant, Jordan, were discussing ultimate frisbee and their team. Phil inquired about the friend Jordan had recruited to join their team. A friend who was a lawyer. Who attended UW. Whose name was Lauren. After a few texts between Jordan and Lauren, and Jordan's assurance that Phil was a "pretty chill guy, but plays a lot of video games"... Lauren did respond. — Lauren and Phil dated for 6 years and were engaged for about half of that time before they finally tied the knot. On March 15, 2025, the couple got married in Madison, WI in the presence of their immediate family and some friends. As of this writing, they have no regrets. They spend their days playing volleyball and pickleball, cooking and going out to new restaurants, trying to beat each other in the Wordle, playing board games, and watching silly shows and post-apocalyptic sci-fi thrillers that Lauren says she can't get into but she secretly loves. They love their cat, Gatsby, the most well dressed boy in Madison. — Reader's note: This "meet cute" story was written by me (Phil) and thus, has a few roasts and biases. To self-roast and even things out, I think it's important to point out that this was the only thing I was trusted to do.
