See you in Hot Springs!
Matt and I met our sophomore year of college when he came over to my apartment with some of our mutual friends. Our first conversation consisted of him telling me about how he hid cans of cat food all around his suite for his suite mates to randomly find. So you could say it was love at first sight. Just kidding. We were friends for about a year and then one fateful day we went out to eat with two of our friends who had just started dating. We kept joking about it being a double date. Matt even forgot his wallet and I had to pay for him. The date joke just kept going until eventually it wasn’t so much of a joke anymore. A classic friends to lovers romcom if you will.
Matt proposed on a trip to Aruba with some of our friends and family. I was somewhat expecting it after he snatched his phone from me on the flight there but my mom did a great job of throwing me off his case. We went out to eat one of the first nights and our friends had planned to go to the beach afterwards and take pictures at sunset. Dinner lasted longer than anyone expected and it was pretty much dark by the time we got out but everyone was still sprinting to the beach for these “sunset” pics. Matt was dragging me along, which should have been my first sign something was afoot since Matt’s never in a rush to take pictures, and I was stubbornly telling everyone it was too dark to take pictures and asking why we couldn’t do it another night instead. Once we got to the beach and Matt got down on one knee I finally understood. He asked me to marry him and I think my first response was “Omg you’re not. Are you really?” I eventually got to the resounding yes.
