Phil and Barbara’s story began long before dating apps and group texts — back in 3rd-period AP English during their senior year at Lakota West High School. What started as classmates turned into their very first date in 2009, when Phil took Barbara to see I Love You, Man (which still holds a permanent spot on Barbara’s favorites list). A few dates later, they both headed off to THE Ohio State University, where they joined Greek Life and spent the next four years crossing paths, reconnecting, and occasionally losing track of one another — the classic “on-again, off-again” college chapter. After graduation, life took them in different directions. Barbara moved back to California with her family and began building her HR career in Orange County, while Phil headed to Wisconsin for law school. Eventually, both found themselves in California — Phil starting his legal career in Los Angeles and Barbara continuing to grow her own. In 2020, thanks to a mutual high-school friend, Phil reached out with a simple idea: “We should get together when the pandemic ends.” That moment finally came in May 2021, when they reunited for a first date in Downtown LA — pre-dinner drinks at 7th Grand followed by sushi at Sugarfish (their favorite date spot to this day). On October 19th, 2021 Phil officially asked Barbara to be his girlfriend, and the rest truly is history. Barbara eventually made the move from Orange County to Downtown Los Angeles, where she and Phil now live together with their beloved fur baby, Roxie — proof that sometimes the best love stories just need a little time (and a lot of chapters) to fully come together.
