On May 12, 2018 Peyton boarded a Carnival cruise ship out of New Orleans with his family and I boarded that same ship with my parents and two friends. We didn’t know each other, but we met the first night and realized we had a mutual friend. We spent the rest of the trip planning the times to meet up each day and stayed up until the crack of dawn each night trying to squeeze in every conversation. We exchanged numbers and left the trip thinking we’d never see each other again. However, we haven’t gone a day without talking ever since. After the cruise, Peyton immediately headed to be a counselor at Camp Ozark in Arkansas where he wasn’t allowed to have a phone. He memorized my number and called me every night from the camp phone and sent letters throughout the summer. We met up in Little Rock on one of his off days, and I visited his family lake house after his camp session. Without hesitation, there was an unspoken realization that we could do long distance. We ended the summer starting our sophomore years of college officially dating… 6 hours apart. We continued to do long distance for almost 4 years while I attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and Peyton at Mississippi State University. I think you can say the rest is history. We’ve spent countless days at the lake, explored a handful of states together, driven lots of miles to see each other, fallen in love with our dog Brees, and finally moved to the same state. We are so excited for this next phase of life and are so blessed to be surrounded by the best people to help celebrate.
