It's three days before Thanksgiving. Laura has recently moved to Arizona but after a year of settling in, she and her sister decide to host their three cousins from Missouri for Turkey day. They'll be there in 4 hours. Laura decides to go rock climbing while she waits for their arrival. Especially because she knows there will be a boy there she's been crushing on. Sure enough, him and his sister are the only other two in the climbing gym she knows. They're crushing climbs left and right but suddenly her foot slides off a hold which causes her to fall two feet to the ground. It's not very far, but she lands between the crack of two crash pads, causing her foot to become uneven in the land, breaking her ankle. The bouldering cave goes silent, Laura loses her hearing, and people are surrounding her. Peyton removes her shoe, the manager gets some ice, she thinks it's a sprain. However, it's her right ankle. She can't drive. Peyton offers to drive her home, despite the fact that she's much closer with his sister at this point in time. She immediately responds with a yes. This is her time alone with this cute boy! He drives her home, his sister drives his car behind them, and then Peyton carries her into her home that he's never been into before. Her cousins will be here in 30 minutes for a Thanksgiving weekend packed with fun but she can't walk. She figures it's just a bad sprain, so she ices consistently and take lots of ibuprofen. There's too much planned and she has Thanksgiving dinner to cook! They make the most of their four days together and have loads of fun. The cousins leave and she decides to go to urgent care, three days after the accident. Her mother has no idea any of this happened by the way. Turns out on the urgent care x-rays the ankle is actually broken. She crumbles, a complete emotional mess. There's going to be a long road ahead. Thankfully Peyton gave Laura his number that night and has texted her every day since, despite everyone telling her how bad a texter he is. Peyton was unemployed at the time so he'd drive Laura to and from work and go to Dr appointments with her. They'd sit for hours talking and laughing because what else could she do?! She was on crutches! And thus began a beautiful love story.
