The marina offers boat, jet ski, and kayak rentals — perfect for exploring the lake, swimming, or relaxing in the sun with mountain views all around. This spot is extra special to us because Peyton and Corrina both worked here during the summers, so it’s full of great memories and hometown charm.

Bell Mountain Park & Historic Site If you’re looking for incredible panoramic views of Lake Chatuge and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains, Bell Mountain Park in Hiawassee is a must-see! The short drive up the mountain leads to an overlook and observation deck with some of the most breathtaking scenery in North Georgia — perfect for photos and sunsets. Please note: there are no restrooms at the top, so plan to stop beforehand. The road is steep and winding, but the view is absolutely worth it!

This special spot is also close to our hearts — it’s where Peyton proposed to Corrina! 💍

Helen, Georgia Just about 45 minutes from Hiawassee, the alpine village of Helen is a fun day trip full of charm (and a little bit of touristy fun!). This Bavarian-style mountain town features cobblestone streets, German-inspired architecture, and plenty of local shops, candy stores, and restaurants serving bratwurst and pretzels. Popular things to do include tubing down the Chattahoochee River, exploring Anna Ruby Falls, browsing the Helen Arts & Heritage Center, or enjoying a pint at one of the local breweries. It’s definitely a bit touristy — but undeniably cute, walkable, and full of character!

High Shoals Falls For a bit of mountain adventure, take a short drive from Hiawassee to High Shoals Falls, one of North Georgia’s most stunning waterfall hikes. The trail winds through lush forest along the High Shoals Creek Scenic Area, leading to two gorgeous waterfalls that cascade more than 100 feet into crystal-clear pools below. The hike is about 2.6 miles round trip and moderately challenging — but the views (and cool mountain air) make it absolutely worth it. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring water; it’s a great way to experience the beauty of the North Georgia mountains!

Brasstown Bald Located just a few miles from Young Harris, Brasstown Bald is the highest point in Georgia, offering sweeping 360° views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. On a clear day, you can see as far as four states — Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee! Visitors can take a shuttle to the summit or enjoy the steep but beautiful half-mile hike to the top, which winds through rhododendron and mountain laurel forests. At the summit, you’ll find an observation deck, visitor center, and museum with exhibits about the region’s natural history. It’s one of the most scenic spots in North Georgia — perfect for photos, picnics, or a peaceful mountain escape.

It’s a perfect spot for hiking, kayaking, or just soaking in the mountain scenery. In the fall, the park is especially stunning, with brilliant foliage reflecting off the lake — a true North Georgia gem!

They also serve tasty Mexican-inspired food — tacos, quesadillas, and more — from a food truck right on site.  With indoor seating, a rooftop patio, and outdoor space (dog-friendly too!), it’s a great place to grab a cold beer, enjoy the views, and unwind after a day in the mountains.
