Bobby and Peyton met each other way back on the school bus their freshman year at Andover High School. Bobby had just moved to Minnesota and was wearing the ugliest brown jacket Peyton had ever seen. Peyton was quick to greet the newest person at school but Bobby awkwardly avoided the conversation. Although they were not close friends in high school, Bobby and Peyton reconnected their freshmen year of college. Bobby would drive down to Bethel to watch movies with Peyton, play basketball, and hang out with friends. Bobby asked Peyton out on their first official date where they went to Panera for a very fancy dinner (Bobby ate three bagels for dinner) and walked around Rosedale Mall. In February, Bobby asked Peyton’s parents for permission to ask Peyton out (very polite). Bobby then made a plan to surprise Peyton at her parents house to ask her to be his girlfriend. Peyton arrived home on February 8th, 2013 where Bobby suprised her and asked her to be his girlfriend (officially). Peyton agreed of course! The next few years consisted of many ice fishing dates, nights making pasta and chicken (A classic Bobby meal) and big mile stones such as moving to UND and getting their engineering degrees! Bobby braved hanging out at Peyton’s sorority house and countless social functions. Peyton patiently listened and learned as Bobby explained his latest hobby or scheme. Through the years of their relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend, Bobby and Peyton had ups and downs, a ton of laughter and shared weirdness, navigated long distance, and grew closer as friends and partners.
December 7th, 2019 was a bright Saturday morning in Birchwood, WI. Bobby and Peyton were spending the weekend at the Zapzalka cabin enjoying family time and winter activities. Peyton had rented cross country skis to explore the trails that weekend. To her surprise, Bobby asked to come with her to explore the trails. Peyton said, “Why would you come with, you don’t have skis?” (Obviously oblivious to Bobby’s plan). Ultimatley Bobby still went along but agreed that he would have to walk through the deep snow to avoid ruining the ski trail. Peyton, Bobby, and their dog Ollie went to Nordic Woods Ski Trail for a nice walk. Bobby trudged through knee high snow while Peyton skied and Ollie explored. Bobby was quickly out of breath from hiking through the deep, dense snow. Peyton also noticed Bobby kept grabbing the front pockets of his jeans (She thought his pants were falling down as he hiked). As they returned to the trail entrance, Bobby asked to stop and take a break. Peyton agreed assuming Bobby was tired. Bobby started to talk about how nice the trail was and our past memories at the cabin. Bobby said, “last time we were at the cabin, your Dad and I went out fishing early in the morning.” (A routine activity for them at the cabin). “When we were out there, I asked him if I could have your hand in marriage,” Bobby continued. That was when he got down on one knee and pulled out the most beautiful ring! He said, “Peyton, will you marry me?” Peyton was so shocked all she could say was, “Are you serious?” After collecting herself, Peyton of course said “yes!” They hugged and laughed and celebrated out in the snow as Ollie ran around them. They then headed back to the cabin to share the happy news and start telling all their friends and family!
