On the weekend of June 24, 2017, Dave and Jenna headed up to Vermont to participate in the Tough Mudder Race, along with their close friends. The course was 10 miles long with about 20 obstacles woven in throughout the course. The first half of the race was great, despite trekking up and down a muddy mountain. They all crawled through underwater tunnels, climbed up ropes, carried each other around and even survived something called the “Devils Beard”. Nearing mile seven, the group reached the 16-foot skateboard quarter-pipe ramp. The object was to run as fast as you can up the ramp and hope to almighty that someone up top catches you. Dave, with grace and ease, was successful. He survived. He made it. Jenna on the other hand, ran up the ramp, jumped for someone to catch her, but smacked the ramp and was left sliding down the pipe. Whatever. But her determination didn’t diminish. She took a few moments to build back up her confidence and started running towards the ramp. But as luck would have it, she stepped on what probably was the only uneven part of the ramp- and sprained her ankle. Sparing you the details of the injury and her terrible ride down a bumpy mountain, ankle hitting the cart with every rock that cart went over, the more memorable outcome of the injury, was the fact that Dave was attentive and caring to Jenna throughout the entire weekend (besides kicking her butt in yard games and not caring one bit that she was trying her best to play corn toss on crutches). One of the sweet gestures was when he gave Jenna his New York Giants hoodie when it got cold at night. Little did he know that the simple gesture would be the spark igniting this beautiful relationship. If he had let Jenna freeze that night, we all wouldn’t be gearing up for an incredible celebration. She would still be living at home at her parents, and he would still be hanging out in the dining room kitchen turned bedroom with Nelson. But instead, they lived happily ever after!
