Flight
Planning your trip? Rome's Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (FCO) and Florence's Amerigo Vespucci Airport (FLR) are the nearest airports for our wedding weekend. Rome (FCO): - Travel Time to Dievole: Approximately 2.5 to 3 hours by car. - Larger airport with more international flight options, that usually offers competitive prices for flights due to its size and hub status. Florence (FLR): - Travel Time to Dievole: Approximately 1 to 1.5 hours by car. - Smaller and more manageable airport size, but limited direct international flight options compared to larger airports. * Remember to double-check your passport's expiration date!
Rental Car
If you're flying into the Rome or Florence airport, renting a car is the most convenient option for reaching Dievole and exploring Tuscany. You can rent a car from both airports through various rental companies located at the airports. Alternatively, you can rent a car in Siena, a smaller town with fewer options but still offering rental services. Booking in advance is recommended to ensure availability and to secure the best rates. ** When renting a car in Italy, it’s important to have an International Driving Permit (IDP). You can easily obtain an IDP at any AAA office, and you don’t need to be a AAA member to do so. Although some car rental agencies might not strictly enforce the IDP requirement, it’s highly recommended to have one. If you are stopped by the police while driving without an IDP, you could face fines or legal issues, as the IDP is required by Italian law. Make sure to get it before your trip, as it's not something you can obtain on the spot in Italy.
