Alison and Alex met after the annual Opportunity Foundation golf tournament in June 2020 with a little help from some family and friends. To truly appreciate the story we have to go back 12 or so years. Alison’s parents were avid bowlers but they had to find new bowling partners. There was a young couple who just moved to Williston and wanted to bowl on a league. This is when Alison’s parents met Travis and Kristina for the first time. Travis is Alex’s oldest brother. Over the years the four of them would continue to bowl and Alison would visit when she was back from college. This led to her babysitting Travis and Kristina’s kids a couple times and the families to doing more things together throughout the years. Alison’s dad and Travis started golfing together for the Opportunity Foundation tournament along with Alison’s sister and a family friend. Kristina came out to the golf course to visit both Alison and her mom while waiting for Travis to be done. In visiting with Alison’s mom, Kristina brought up her brother in law and how she wished he would find someone. Alison’s mom graciously blurted out that Alison was single and maybe they should meet. Kristina, excited by this opportunity, quickly put things into motion. She waited until Alison had had a few cocktails and asked her if she would like to meet her brother in law after bragging him up a bit. Alison did a quick search on Facebook, found Alex, and agreed to maybe be set up. Jumping on that, Kristina quickly contacted Alex to see if he wanted to go out after the tournament. Alex wasn’t sure as he was working a baseball game and didn’t know when it would be done. The group went out to JDubs, a local bar, and Alex joined them when he was done working. As soon as Alex and Alison met it was like the rest of the group ceased to exist. They talked all night and exchanged phone numbers. Alex was quick to set up another date at JDubs a few days later. Alison and Alex continue to have weekly dates there!
The Opportunity Foundation golf tournament was the day Alison and Alex met in 2020 and it is also the day he proposed to her a year later. Alex put together his own four man team and Alison volunteered for her 5th year at the putting contest. After the tournament, during the awards ceremony, Opportunity Foundation staff asked to recognize a volunteer. They called Alison up and presented her with a certificate. Little did she know this was all a part of Alex’s big plan. After she was presented with the award, Alison felt a brush on her back and turned around to see Alex on one knee with a ring box. The first thing she blurted out was “What are you doing?!” The two don’t remember much else but thankfully Alex thought of everything and had family filming. Alex had carried the ring in his golf bag during the tournament and quickly changed shirts after golfing because he was “sweaty.” All little cues that Alison did not pick up on. She had three things she wanted Alex to do when he proposed: 1) ask her dad for permission 2) get pictures of it 3) make sure her nails were done. Alex, with some help from family and friends, came through on all three things and it was absolutely perfect!
