Downtown Manteo
Take a stroll! Manteo's got enough entertainment for a day's worth of window shopping and walking. Check out the Marshes Lighthouse, Ice Plant Island (has a Top Golf!), Downtown Books, Wanchese Pottery, and Dare Arts.
Bodie Island Lighthouse
18 minute drive from Manteo. Can climb the lighthouse with prepurchased tickets! Cannot bring the lighthouse home. Great bird watching from an onsite boardwalk. Open 0900-1700.
Island Farm Living Museum and Pumpkin Patch
Live museum featuring OBX life from the 1580s to early 1900s. Features livestock interactions and live demonstrations including blacksmithing, traditional agriculture, food preservation, hearth cooking, weaving, and woodworking (AKA, GRUFF's Sinful Six) 15th annual pumpkin patch (on site) includes pumpkin picking, popcorn, candle-making, and doll crafting. Please do not touch the museum actors.
North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island
Six minute drive from Manteo. This is an incredible aquarium with on-site turtle rehabilitation. Should not take animals home with you.
Elizabethan Gardens
Six minute drive from Manteo. Gorgeous botanical garden that's meticulously maintained. A beautiful place to walk around in every season. Can bring plants home if no one catches you.
Wright Brothers National Memorial - First Flight
21 minute drive from Manteo. Ohio's only contribution to history!
Jockey's Ridge State Park
Sand - but at an angle! 15 minute drive from Manteo.
Jennette's Pier & Beach
Nine minute drive from Manteo. Beach. No limit on sand you can take home (gate guard will still ask; Dare County law does not supersede new federal law on sand carriage)
Avalon Pier & Beach
23 minute drive from Manteo. Beach with parking lot and sand. Can take sand home but limited to 4oz/visitor (checked by guard at gate).
Cape Hatteras Lighthouse
1 hour drive from Manteo. America's tallest lighthouse! Woah! Likely open for climbing by the time of our wedding - it's undergoing major renovations that are projected to complete this summer.
The Pioneer Theater
Catch a movie or a show! Located across the street from 108 Budleigh.
