A natural and engineering marvel, backstop of Montana's booming barley crop, Gibson reservoir is great place to spend an afternoon. You can fish, float, or frolic in its deep waters. A hiking trail follows the eastern shore of the lake, into the depths of the Bob Marshall. For fans of industry, the Dam may be closely inspected from both the inlet and outlet points, (we recommend not getting too close!). The Sun River flows from the outlet of the dam, with many bridges and rock formations along the way. Check out every gulch on the way up hill to build your excitement.
The lodge will be open for lunch, (thank goodness), and also hosts horse and geology tours through the weekend. We encourage stopping in for a burger and beer.
40 minutes to the east of the wedding venue, Augusta is home to a market, several bars and shops, and a museum. Groceries may be purchased at Mannix General Store, (options may be limited, we recommend stopping in Helena if possible). You can stop in to Lightning Bug Coffee, (for a drink and thrifting!), or hit the Outlaw Women Saloon breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
