Kyla and Peter met through mutual friends in the Fall of 2010, while in college at Cal Poly. She lived next door to Peter's teammates and they soon discovered a shared love for music events and food.

Memorial Day weekend of 2018, Kyla and Peter went on a camping trip to Victoria, BC. It started out a disaster - after a very early departure time (Kyla was not a fan) and a long drive to Port Angeles, the first ferry to Victoria was full and they had to wait over 5 hours for the next one! Peter almost canceled the trip, but Kyla talked him out of it and they continued on their way, making it to Victoria and setting up camp that evening. The next morning they went on a hike to a waterfall, and while she was preoccupied taking a photo he got down on one knee. No surprise here - she said YES!
