Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa
This is a fabulous new art museum, featuring artists from Africa and the diaspora. The galleries are beautiful and the building itself is quite stunning. Finally, the rooftop views are an added (stunning) bonus - best views of Table Mountain!
District Six Museum
A museum detailing the forced removals of the historic District Six neighborhood. This is an interesting lens through which to examine Apartheid, the spatial planning which still impacts South Africa in many ways, and the issue of land (which you have probably heard about in the news!)
Bo-Kaap
All the colorful houses...always a fun place for a stroll (and the best place for a selfie!)
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden
The concerts in the park are highly recommended! Check to see if you overlap with any :)
Constantia Glen
Kaitlin’s favourite Constantia vineyard 🍷The views are stellar and they let you sit out on the grass with wine, so you don't even need to book a table!
Cape Point Vineyards Estate
Come be surrounded by all of Cape Town’s best features: sea views, mountain views, and vineyard views! This vineyard has really lovely picnic baskets (order in advance) and they will set up a cushion-y picnic out on the lawn for you! There is also a Thursday evening market night - we are planning a meet-up on Thursday, December 26th if you care to join us! Check the schedule tab for more info 💗
Bay Harbour Market
Food, clothing, and other cool trinkets...open on Friday evenings, and all day Saturday and Sunday!
Robben Island
This is the island prison where Mandela was held. Make sure you purchase tickets well in advance - they often sell out!
Silvermine Nature Reserve
Go for a hike! :)
Boulders Beach
A beautiful beach where you can have close encounters with penguins 🐧
Table Mountain
Table Mountain is a must :) You can either take the cable car or there are several hiking options. Peter probably recommends the cable car both ways :) but Kaitlin likes to hike the Skeleton Gorge trail (from Kirstenbosch) up and taking the cable car down. We have planned a group hike on December 27 - check out the schedule tab for details! *If you plan to take the cable car up, we definitely suggest that you buy tickets online prior to going - your wait time will be significantly reduced!
Cape Point
Where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet, officially. Lovely walks and views.
Harbour House - Kalk Bay
This restaurant is right on the rocks! It is a great place to go after a day of penguin viewing 🐧
The Neighbourgoods Market
Food and local designers come together for a happening little market! Also recommend: walking around Woodstock (the neighborhood where the market takes place) 💯 (The photo of us is at the Neighbourgoods Market in Johannesburg, but you get the idea!)
The Pot Luck Club
Awesome food and views in a fun neighborhood. You will need to book here 1-2 months in advance!
Franschhoek Wine Tram
A fun outing for a day - goes around to a bunch of the Franschhoek wine estates. Definitely needs to be booked in advance 🍷 We have made a group booking for December 29! Check the schedule tab for info!
Babylonstoren
This vineyard has a beautiful maze of a garden - complete with a hidden little cafe all the way in the back! We recommend wandering around and getting lost in the plants 🌱
