Our Story

August 2015 - present day

Peter and I met at a meeting for Sunday School Teachers at Kampala International Church. He walked me to the road to get a boda (motorcycle) back to my house. We became friends and talked often about community development, the ails of the world and our desires to serve God and our communities. Although I knew Peter liked me... and I might have liked him too... he was slow and steady and didn't ask me out until a year after we met (most likely after meeting my family who assumed we were already dating). We began dating in August 2016 after having a long conversation about how I didn't know if I wanted to date because I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT EVER WANT TO BE IN A LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP. Yes... I was that adamant! It's funny how things work out... -Bree “…….We shall be having a Sunday school teacher’s meeting today after service……” as said by the leader of the program at KIC-B. We sat close to each other and, in the process, we got to know each other’s names. The outcome of the short chat led us to a walk to a place where she had to take boda. My friend kept talking and I was speechless because I had seen someone I had always desired to spend my life with in her. As the saying goes “slow but sure”. That was me because my decisions are done out of prolonged thought. The more I came close to her, I felt I was dying in the inside because I was madly in love with her but I had never told her so. On the last day of our trip to Eastern Uganda I knocked on her door to tell her I was leaving for Kampala and the beauty of her face struck me to the extent that I failed to tell her what I had planned to tell her the previous night. All I said was I am leaving now. When I got to Kampala I was restless because my heart had stayed back in Soroti, so with a lot of confidence I took my first text shot and now here we are today. Me, in love with the one I always desired to spend the rest of my life with. -Peter

The Proposal

12.28.17

Peter and I decided to meet in Singapore and travel to Malaysia for Christmas after being apart for 8 months. This was an absolute dream vacation and the cherry on top of the cake was the proposal! I knew that Peter would be proposing at some time during the vacation, but in line with his nature he waited until one of the last days were were in Malaysia to pop the question and I was no longer expecting it. We went on a hike through the Penang National Park and ended up on Turtle Beach. We were able to see baby turtles in a sanctuary on the beach and then we relaxed on the shore. The beach was pretty secluded due to the fact that you can only reach it by hiking there. Peter and I walked out onto the pier overlooking the ocean and he began a speech (as Ugandans do) about finding treasure in the bottom of the ocean and then pulled the "treasure" out of his bag. He gave another sweet speech about his love for me and then asked if I would marry him. The only words that came to my mind were "I guess so", but don't worry, a few minutes later when I had calmed down I clarified: "I meant yes by the way". -Bree
