Karina started going to Motown Fitness after she moved back to New Jersey from California back in September 2016. She was aware of, but never had the opportunity to speak to, the coach who played angsty music and yelled at members who interrupted warm ups with their talking. In the summer of 2018, Karina started noticing the "angry coach" noticing her and teasing her publicly during class. His intentions were unclear to Karina until he started sliding into her DMs. After a few months of unsuccessful courtship, Pete finally exploited Karina's weakness and asked her on a date over doughnuts. On December 15, 2018, Karina and Pete had their first date at Montclair Bread Company. They could not sit outside because it was raining, so they sat in Pete's car and talked for hours about their friends, families, CrossFit, and love of food. However, no one ate any of the doughnuts because they were too busy laughing...and Karina had eaten 80 chicken nuggets the day before. Three years, 2 bulldogs, and many DMs later, Karina and Pete are engaged and have made a home in Morris Plains, NJ.

In the Fall of 2018, Pete was coaching at the gym when he noticed a girl doing a back bend like she was Gumby. Pete started noticing this girl more often, in fact she often attended his classes and interrupted it by talking to her friend constantly. This lead to Pete getting the nickname Coach "AP" or "Angry Pete" by Karina and her friends. After building up the courage, Pete finally asked Karina out on a date, but it wasn't until he ask her out on a doughnut date did Karina actually say yes. Pete had an insider tip that Karina loves doughnuts. After a rainy car date to Montclair Bread Company, Karina saw that Pete was a really nice guy and fun to talk to when she wasn't interrupting his class. As fortune would have it, Pete matched for his residency program in Philadelphia, which meant that Karina and Pete could see each other often. It wasn't long before Pete knew Karina was special and in fact while visiting his friend Chris for some pizza and drinks he expressed to Chris that he felt like she was the one. Chris agreed, but it might have been the scotch. Shortly before finishing residency Pete organized the perfect plan to ask Karina to marry him. It would involve doughnuts from Montclair Bread Company and their two bulldogs. With the help of friends, Pete was able to surprise Karina and since you're on this page, you obviously know she said YES! We survived a pandemic, many Philadelphia moves, a puppy (who is probably the Jersey Devil), two years of residency, a condo rehab, multiple emergency pet visits, and a car accident. I can't wait to celebrate and start the next chapter of our lives together.
