How We Fell In Love

A Shot Of Love

One day, Hades was driving his chariot around Sicily looking for cracks in the earth that the giant Typhon might've created. To his luck, there were none, so his subjects in the Underworld could live peacefully. Things were not peaceful for long though! Soon after Hades saw there were no cracks, Aphrodite's son Eros was commanded by Aphrodite to shoot Hades with one of his arrows that make people fall madly in love with whom Aphrodite chooses. She chose Persephone. As soon as Hades was struck with the arrow, he fell madly in love and went to ask Zeus - Persephone's father - for permission to marry her.

A Crazy But Worth It Journey

Seasons for a Reason

Zeus and Hades made a plan to kidnap Persephone since they knew her mother, Demeter, would never give Hades permission to marry her. Persephone was picking flowers and saw an incredibly beautiful one she wanted. She went to pick it, and as she did, a crack in the earth opened and Hades came out in his chariot and grabbed her. He put her in the chariot and drove into the Underworld while Persephone called out for her mother and father. Hades and Persephone lived in the Underworld while Demeter started searching everywhere. Demeter was extremely distraught by the loss of her daughter, so distraught and angry that she decided to take drastic action. Demeter decided to take away her life-sustaining gifts and command the earth die and mold until someone brought Persephone back or told her where Persephone was. Eventually, Lord Helios revealed where Persephone was to Demeter, and Demeter decided to take away her life-sustaining gifts from the immortals as well until Persephone was returned to her. This caused Zeus to call for Persephone to return to her mother. However, before Persephone left the Underworld, Hades offered her a pomegranate seed to eat that way she could not remain in the upper world forever, She ate it without knowing the consequences of her action. Demeter and Persephone were so distraught that Persephone would be bound to the Underworld forever, until Rhea, Mother of the Gods, made them a deal. She declared that Persephone would only spend one-third of the year in the Underworld with Hades and the rest of the time she could live in the upper world. Persephone and Demeter rejoiced. So, when Persephone goes to the Underworld to be with Hades, Demeter makes the earth as lifeless as it was while she was searching for Persephone to deal with her sadness. When Persephone returns to the upper world, the world comes back to life with Demeter's happiness. Hades and Persephone's love story made the seasons.
